How to Fix Common Printing Issues

In this article, we'll share some valuable tips and tricks to help you resolve these issues and get your documents flowing smoothly from your Mac to the printer.

Issue 1: Printing on the Wrong Network (e.g., Guest Network)

One of the most frequent issues that can disrupt your printing experience is being connected to the wrong network. To make sure you're on the correct network (e.g., HPSnet):

a. Check Your Wi-Fi Connection: Click on the Wi-Fi icon in your Mac's menu bar (top-right corner). Ensure that you're connected to the correct Wi-Fi network, which should be your organization's or home network.

b. Forget Unwanted Networks: If your Mac frequently connects to the wrong network, you can "forget" unwanted networks by going to "System Preferences" > "Network" > "Wi-Fi" > "Advanced." Remove unwanted networks from the list.

c. Set Preferred Networks: In the same "Wi-Fi" settings, you can reorder the list of preferred networks to prioritize the correct network.

d. Use Network Locations: Consider creating network locations in "System Preferences" > "Network" to switch between different network settings easily.

Issue 2: Stuck Print Jobs and a Clogged Printing Queue

If your Mac's print queue gets clogged with stuck print jobs, it can prevent new documents from printing. Here's how to clear the printing queue:

a. Access the Print Queue: Click on the Apple menu and select "System Preferences," then choose "Printers & Scanners." Select your printer from the list and click "Open Print Queue."

b. Cancel Print Jobs: In the Print Queue window, you'll see a list of pending print jobs. To cancel a job, select it and click the "Delete" or "X" button.

c. Restart the Print Spooler: Sometimes, clearing the queue may not be enough. You can restart the print spooler by selecting "Printer" in the Print Queue menu and choosing "Cancel All Documents." Then, try printing your document again.
